Funding Program

Download Funding Application (updated April 2010)

Since its inception, SRDC has considered 79 applications for funding. These applications have been in support of a variety of community projects and/or initiatives.

The applications that have been successful in gaining SRDC funding have all been in support of projects that were shown to have a broad focus or regional impact. Successful applications have also been supported by three or more partnering municipal corporations.

What is the SRDC financial assistance program?

  • SRDC assistance is granted only to projects that are new or in the development stages. Established projects are ineligible.
  • SRDC requires that all supporting municipalities of a project be members of SRDC. A resolution of support is required from each municipal partner involved in a project.
  • SRDC also requires that projects have a regional focus with priority given to those with three or more municipal partners.
  • SRDC requires that a minimum of 50% of project funding comes from sources other than the provincial government.
  • SRDC funding will be limited to 50% of eligible project costs to a maximum of $10,000.00. Exceptions may be considered. A variety of “up front” expenses may be deemed eligible.
  • SRDC may also provide funding to cover capital costs. Grants for capital costs may be awarded on a one-third – two-third basis depending on funds available and priorities of the board.

How to fill out the funding application

Before beginning to fill out the SRDC funding application, please thoroughly review the accompanying Instructional Guide. It provides information on SRDC guidelines, funding procedures, and step by step instructions on how to fill out the application.

SRDC’s funding application is simple. It is important, however, to fill out all of the requested information including contact names, numbers, email and full addresses. Please include the $50.00 application fee along with resolutions of support from at least three of partnering municipal corporations.

Please Note: THE APPLICATION MUST BE SIGNED BY THE PROPONENT.

What is the funding process?

  • A $50.00 non-refundable application fee must accompany all applications. New applications will not be considered until this fee has been received.
  • Applications are presented to the SRDC Board of Directors at regular monthly meetings. Upon reviewing most applications, questions and concerns arise. Because of this, applications are usually tabled until the next meeting. The applicant is contacted and asked to provide answers to those questions. Once the necessary information is received, the application is revisited for possible approval.
  • Upon approval, the applicant must provide SRDC with a cheque for an amount equal to the approved grant along with a request for the release of funds. This “initiation fee” is then returned. This fee serves as proof that matching funds are available.
  • A two percent administration fee is deducted from all SRDC Progress and Final Payments.
  • SRDC funding is released when copies of paid invoices and supporting documentation has been received. SRDC will match the original funding amount or 50% of the actual project costs, whichever is less.
  • The SRDC Board of Directors realize that projects do not unfold as originally planned. Should an application be altered from what was described in the original "project overview" or budget, proponents are required to submit a report fully explaining these changes. Any deviations from the originally approved application will not be funded without prior approval from SRDC.
  • A final report must be submitted to SRDC recapping in detail the completed project. SRDC will withhold 20 percent of its funding until the final report is received, reviewed and approved by the board.
  • If the initiation fee (applicant’s share of the funding) has not been received within six months of the SRDC approval date, SRDC may withdraw grant approval.
  • If a project has not been completed and/or a final report not submitted to SRDC within the time period presented in the application, SRDC may withdraw approval of outstanding grant monies. Before doing so, SRDC must provide the applicant with three months written notice.

Remember...

In order for the Board to deal with your application expediently, it is critical that you complete the application in its entirety and provide as much detail as reasonably possible. This will minimize the likelihood of secondary questions from the Board and increase the likelihood of approval at the first review meeting.

It is also critical that when submitting your application, that the $50.00 application fee and the Resolutions of Support from at least three partnering municipal corporations be included with your request.

NEW! SRDC now requires that all materials to be presented at a SRDC Board of Directors meeting must be forwarded to SRDC at least one week in advance. This includes all new applications for funding as well as Progress and Final Reports.

The applicant will be notified within 10 working days of the final outcome of the review process.
